Faculty member and HVS alumni to read from new memoir on April 26th
GHENT, NY–Eric G. Mueller and Matthew Zanoni Mueller will be live at the Chatham Bookstore to read from their memoir, Drops on the Water: Stories about Growing Up from a Father and Son, on Saturday, April 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. A conversation with Thomas Chulak from the bookstore and Q & A will follow a brief presentation on the book, published by Apprentice House.
Drops on the Water is about the childhood experiences of a father and son. It traces the similarities and differences between distinct generations in their unique geographical environments. The brief chapters move between Germany and America, East and West coast, and the African continent. The anxieties of early love and rural small town life are balanced against changes seen in the family across generations. Memories of experiences coalesce and bring to life the circumstances that bind father and son to history, family, generation, and place.
“The Muellers are storytellers, and their stories twist around each other like two ends of a doubled thread, sometimes touching, sometimes moving apart in their own directions, but always returning. They are told with the intimacy of a dinner conversation, so particular and yet deeply, pleasingly familiar. It is a treat to be invited to the table.” Hannah Fries – Associate/Poetry Editor, Orion Magazine
Playwright Glen Berger says, “These simultaneously personal, yet universal, utterly recognizable incidents have been delivered to the page with perspicacity, humor, and a poet’s eye. With chapters alternating between the perspectives of the two authors, the dual life-journeys of father and son weave together, casting new light on each other’s lives, as well as our own.”
